In order to help memorise the names, the ancient Chinese simplified them. In Spring the names are: Lichun, Rain, Jing, Spring, Qing, Gutian.

The first season is "Lichun" which announces the arrival of spring! The second season is "The Rains". It's going to rain in spring! Spring rain is as precious as oil! The third season is "Jing zhe", Jing means that there will be thunder in the sky. Let the thunder tell all living things. Zhe refers to creatures that sleep underground during the winter, telling them to wake up and stop sleep!

The fourth season is "Spring Equinox". On this day the day and night are of the same length! From then on, the days get longer and the night shorter! The fifth season is "Qingming". Traditionally people visit the graves of their ancestors every year to commemorate their lives! At this time, the whole family goes out to play, which is also called Outing!

"Guyu" is the sixth and final season of Spring. At this time, the millet in the field has begun to grow. It is prone to drought and needs irrigation water. If it rains, it is an additional benefit to help the plants grow. Ancient China was a major agricultural economy. Spring was the busiest season, so they had to follow the seasons, the weather and not waste time!
